at the Astrophotography Awards night in July 2009.

NGC3521 by Darrin Nitschke
Another stitched fields Nitschke LRGB masterpiece using a 8-inch f/4 Newtonian. Again, this image clearly demonstrates
just how much detail can be recorded using the GSTAR-EX camera. Of course, the magic in revealing it all comes with
patience and educated post image processing experience.

crater_clarke.jpg (65006 bytes)

The large crater Janssen (about 191 kilometres across) taken by Jason Clarke NSW with the GSTAR-EX and Meade 10-inch LX200. The image is comprised of a stack of 2 short 1/500 second exposures. A long rille can be seen quite clearly cutting its way through the crater floor and central mountain massif. It is about 6kms wide.

NGC3372

This is a first attempt image of the Carina Nebula using the G-STAR-EX with a SkyWatcher SW600 (8-inch Newtonian) taken by Dave Larkin in Queensland.

The image was taken from a light polluted suburb of Brisbane with a full Moon in the sky using only 64X integration (sense up) setting.

The famous Keyhole is clearly seen here.

Jupiter

Jupiter

by Darren Jackson (U.K)

...couldn't believe how much detail I could see in Jupiter's clouds. I have never seen that much detail before...it's hard to go back to looking through an eyepiece again.

NGC5139

NGC5139

by Darren Jackson

This image is a stack of several individual video frames taken with a 8-inch SkyWatcher Newtonian from Sydney. The levels have been stretched to reveal the extent of stars visible in Omega Centauri.

A stack of several images were used to creat this image of M20-Trifid Nebula also in Sagittarius.

A Guide Scope and Target Finder

Albert Van Donkelaar of Victoria uses the GSTAR-EX for guiding and target finding because of its extremely good sensitivity. Seen here, he has fitted a 6 to 60mm zoom CCTV lens and uses one of the video outputs connected to a 2.5-inch LCD monitor and the other video output connects to a laptop via a USB TV tuner.

And of course, the camera may be used with a guide scope for tracking stars during long exposure photography  providing the best eyerelief possible.

Jupiter

by Steve Massey

This  image of Jupiter taken with GSTAR-EX and tri-colour filters with IR-blocking from Sydney on the 19th May 2006.

The telescope was a SkyWatcher PROMAK-180
(7-inch Maksutov) with Celestron Ultima 2X barlow.

Comprised of 150 stacked images for each colour channel processed in VirtualDub and Registax.
