Welcome to my website originally established in 1996.The goal of these pages is to reveal the simplicity of obtaining astronomical images using economical video cameras with small to large telescopes.

Starting out as an observer in 1971 (still but a lad) I have enjoyed recreational astronomy for many years. In the mid 1980's I experimented with an early model Sony camcorder - shooting the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn. By the 1990's the benefits of video imaging became an obsession as the results I was able to achieve over conventional film photography were far superior and quite exciting.

While I do most of my observing and imaging with small telescopes from a suburban backyard on the Fraser Coast in  Queensland, I occasionally use the 60cm (24-inch) and 1m (40-inch) Cassegrain telescopes at Siding Spring Observatory through project time applications. In 2003 I founded an optical supply business My Astro Shop in Australia which is dedicated to ethical supply of affordable quality telescopes and accessories.

I have several books published including Video Astronomy (Sky Publishing) and author of The Night Sky and Exploring The Moon, (New Holland) and How Does the Night Sky Work? (Young Reed), Space, Stars and PlanetsAtlas of the Southern Night Sky (with Steve Quirk) some pictures within these pages have featured in several other books, magazines, posters and SSO postcards.  If you're interested in trying your hand at astrovideography then you may find some useful tips in the video astronomy section and associated links.
